Every year over three hundred thousand Americans undergo breast augmentation. This hugely popular procedure has seen a massive renaissance over the last several decades. Today, more people than ever are choosing to achieve the breasts of their dreams, and modern techniques mean skilled surgeons can provide truly one-of-a-kind and custom-built procedures to compliment every body and lifestyle.

Unfortunately, though, rising popularity means more people spreading misinformation. There are countless myths and misconceptions about what exactly breast augmentation surgery is, what it can do, and how much it costs.

We’re here to clear things up and break down six of the most common breast augmentation misconceptions floating around today.

1. Breast Augmentation Leads to “Fake” Looking Breasts

Modern surgical techniques provide board-certified surgeons with an incredible degree of precision, control, and subtlety. At  Aesthetx, the vast majority of our breast augmentation clients come to us specifically looking for natural looking and feeling results.

Each enhancement we perform is specially designed to harmonize with your natural anatomy. Our surgeons will take meticulous measurements of your body and breasts pre-operation, and use state-of-the-art imaging technology to help provide a clear picture of what your breasts will look like after augmentation.

2. Implants Feel Fake

As mentioned earlier, the Aesthetx surgical team specializes in providing breast enhancement results that both look and feel entirely natural. Our goal with every surgery is to create a result that mimics the appearance and feel of natural breast tissue.

While all of our surgical techniques provide stunning results, you may still be particularly concerned about the feel of your breasts post-op. If so, we recommend placement under the chest muscle. This helps to keep your implants soft and means that at the surface, there will only be 100% natural breast tissue.

3. Breast Augmentation Causes Lack of Sensation

Though some women do experience a temporary loss or lessening of nipple sensation immediately following surgery, over time, your nerves will heal and adjust to their new size.

In a few months, almost all patients will have full nipple sensation once again. The chances of any permanent sensation damage are incredibly low thanks to advanced screening and surgical techniques.

4. Saline is “Better” Than Silicone

No one implant type’s “better” than another. Both come with a unique set of benefits, and really it all comes down to your goals, lifestyle, and anatomy. Silicone implants boast a natural, soft feel very similar to natural breast tissue, which is why the majority of patients choose them.

Saline implants, on the other hand, can sometimes feel less natural or have a chance of “rippling” more than silicone. Another consideration is a slightly higher chance of rupture associated with saline implants. However, if a rupture happens, the saltwater inside of a saline implant is entirely safe for the body. Either way, rupture is quite rare.

We’ll thoroughly discuss the pros and cons of each implant type and placement during your consultation and determine what’s best for you.

5. Recovery is Long and Painful

Any surgery is going to require some recovery time, during which the incision sight and surrounding muscles will be sore for a short while.

However, recovery is most certainly bearable, and any pain or soreness can be easily managed with a short script of pain medication. Though it’s critical to follow post-op instructions and take things slowly as your body heals, our patients report surprise at how quickly they returned to their normal activities.

Within one to two weeks, you’ll be walking, beginning to return to your full range of motion, and transitioning off of any pain medication.

6. It Doesn’t Matter What Cosmetic Surgeon You Choose

While it’s true that any cosmetic surgeon with appropriate training can place implants, it takes a skilled surgeon with a deep understanding of breast anatomy, and the artistic flair to create stunning and subtle results most patients want.

At Aesthetx, all of our surgeons are board-certified and pride themselves on providing our patients with the highest possible level of care. With years of experience and thousands of satisfied clients, you can be confident we’ll help make your aesthetic dreams come true.
