Kamakshi R. Zeidler, MD
This last January, our very own Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler emceed a meeting of industry leaders at the annual Aesthetics Tech Summit hosted by Octane OC. Octane OC is an organization that connects people, resources and capital to boost businesses in the medical technology industry. They have launched more than 600 companies through their LaunchPad Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Accelerator where Dr. Zeidler serves as their Senior Aesthetic Advisor. While we all know and love Dr. Zeidler as the co-founder and managing partner at Aesthetx, she also sits on the medical advisory board for Octane OC’s signature event.
The event features discussions around groundbreaking medical aesthetic technologies and more. According to organizers, the Aesthetics Tech Summit reached attendees in more than 20 states, 12 countries with over 1000 leading physicians tuning in both virtually and in person.
“Octane OC’s Aesthetics Tech Summit is my favorite meeting of the year,” Dr. Zeidler said. “It was an honor to host and emcee the meeting for the third time.”
Since its inaugural meeting, the tech summit has become the meeting for entrepreneurs, start ups, investors, and leading company executives to converge to network, broker deals and gain insight on where aesthetic medicine is going. This year featured an engaging panel on special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) and how this new form of raising capital is gaining popularity with companies in the space to achieve their growth objectives.
The keynote interview of Carrie Strom, President of Allergan Aesthetics, was another highlight, as she discussed how Allergan is reshaping the industry with a fresh take on the inclusivity of a modern view of beauty. She explained how it’s not just the right thing to do but that it is also good business.
The summit also featured a fireside chat with Caroline Van Hove, President of Revelle Aesthetics. She shone a light on how seasoned executives are bringing new technologies to market. Dr. Zeidler says Revelle’s novel cellulite treatment, Aveli, is going to make a big splash. “I have had the pleasure of trialing this genius device that will transform the way we approach this problem in a chic one-time and easy-to-perform treatment,” she said.
Other topics covered in the summit included robust conversations on energy based treatments and microcoring technologies for skin tightening led by Dr. Zeidler’s friend and colleague, renowned dermatologist Mary Lupo.
“What is most exciting coming out of this meeting is the mile high view of medical aesthetics and the incredible post-Covid boom in business which is gaining the attention of venture capitalists across the world,” Dr. Zeidler said. “The keynote speaker of last year’s ATS meeting, David Pyott, legendary leader of Allergan Aesthetics, predicted this boom in aesthetics – detailing how we experienced a similar boom after the Spanish flu almost a century ago.”
“It seems as if we certainly are headed towards another roaring twenties as we kick off a very busy year in medical aesthetics for 2022. I can’t wait for next year’s meeting and the exciting content we already have in the works.”
