Man holding his pregnant wife's stomach

Pregnancy is nothing if not full of surprises. Even if you’ve had kids before, each pregnancy comes with its own distinctive mix of hormonal shifts and bodily changes. Many of our pregnant clients come to us looking for advice on how to handle these delicate skincare concerns safely.

With higher likelihoods of acne, itches, and stretch marks, proper skin care habits can make a world of difference throughout these nine months and beyond. But, it’s crucial to make sure everything you do to look and feel your best is safe for your baby.

Our expert team at Aesthetx has compiled some essential tips and tricks to make sure you show that pregnant glow. Though you may need to wait on a tummy tuck or Sciton Laser treatment, we have plenty of offerings you’re sure to love.

Treating Breakouts

During pregnancy, several of the most common and trusted breakout treatment methods could put your baby at risk. Products that include retinoids (also known as vitamin A derivatives), like Renova or Retin-A, should be avoided. You’ll also need to stay away from salicylates, or any skincare products with salicylic acid (sometimes listed as beta-hydroxy acid).

But, there are still plenty of highly effective, safe means of helping soothe breakouts. We recommend looking for products with lactic or glycolic acid. These can provide the anti-bacterial properties you need without any health concerns.

Facials?

Another of the most common questions we get is whether or not facials are safe for pregnant patients. Good news! The majority of our in-house facials are completely safe. You’ll have the chance to relax and pamper yourself while boosting your skin’s hydration and health.

There are some treatments its important to avoid, though. These include peels that contain glycolic or beta-hydroxy acids, such as our Silk or VI Peels. Though these provide beautiful results, you’ll need to wait until after pregnancy to benefit from them safely.

Safe Body Moisturizer

When it comes to body moisturizers, do your best to stick to organic products. Glycerin, coconut oil, and shea butter are all powerhouse ingredients that can revitalize your skin and provide the deep hydration it needs.
