Rhinoplasty is an extensive and complex surgery that affects one of the most vital exterior organs on the body, your nose. It’s important to think about your postoperative care to ensure the best results and minimize any risks.
We wanted to create you a short guide to help with your results by helping you prepare before, during, and after your nose surgery.
1. Participate During Your Consultation
The first stage of any aesthetic surgery is your consultation. This is where Dr. Berkowitz or Dr. Zeidler will explain the technique and technology used to enhance nose aesthetics and function. During this time, you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you may have about the procedure.
Take advantage of your consultation time. Come prepared with a list of questions and clarifications you would like to discuss, including surgeon credentials, recovery, and downtime.
2. Realistic Expectations
While rhinoplasty has helped hundreds of thousands of individuals enhance their facial appearance and improve their breathing, it has limitations. Nose structure and skin texture are among the many factors that influence the results. Therefore, the goal of your nose surgery should not be to alter your nose to make you unrecognizable. Instead, you’ll want your surgeon to create natural-looking refinements, facial harmony, and symmetry.
At Aesthetx we also offer ethnic rhinoplasty to help the individual retain their ethnic identity and enhance their features rather than creating a Western Caucasian nose result.
3. Choose Your Surgeon Wisely
Rhinoplasty is one of the most challenging cosmetic surgeries. It requires a vast amount of knowledge of the nasal structure from the surgeon. Patients also must have sufficient tissue to build up different parts of the nose for optimal results.
When interviewing your potential rhinoplasty surgeon, ask how often they perform the procedure, what technique they plan to use, and what level of qualification and expertise they have accumulated. It should also give you peace of mind to choose a plastic surgeon who is board-certified in plastic and reconstructive surgery. At Aesthetx we have our esteemed surgeons who have performed hundreds of surgeries. Dr. Berkowitz is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, and The Rhinoplasty Society, as well as on the board of directors of the Rhinoplasty Society. He has extensive knowledge on rhinoplasty where and customizes his surgical planning to meet each patient’s individual goals and anatomy.
4. Plan Your Recovery
Rhinoplasty is an effective surgical procedure, and recovery is one of the most critical elements for its success. So don’t wait for the last minute to pull together everything you need for a successful recovery. Here are some tips we would like to share to help you get ahead of your recovery preparation.
- Have ice packs ready after surgery.
- Get used to sleeping on your back before surgery.
- Have meals prepared for two weeks when you return from the surgical center.
- Expand your wardrobe to more button-down shirts and blouses, so you don’t have to pull shirts over your nose.
- Make sure you have at least one responsible adult to help you with simple household chores and tasks.
5. Follow Your Plastic Surgeon’s Post-Op Instructions
Pay close attention to your plastic surgeon’s after-surgery instructions for at-home care. These include changing bandages and how to control inflammation and discomfort. Here at Aesthetx, we offer state-of-the art post-op care with our AX Care Packages. Our AX Care for the rhinoplasty includes a cast that’s placed at the end of surgery to limit swelling and hold changes in place, which is then taken off after a week. Sometimes, laser is also performed to help bruises disappear. Our AX Care for rhinoplasty also includes a silicone gel which is used to help scars fade. To ensure safe and adequate healing and to make any necessary adjustments to your recovery process, schedule and attend your follow-up visits to ensure proper healing.
