What Is Ethnic Rhinoplasty?
Ethnic rhinoplasty is cosmetic surgery to improve the appearance of non-Caucasian noses. It is not a single approach, but rather a customized procedure, adjusted on a case-by-case basis to enhance the patient’s natural features and bring out his or her ethnic beauty. To perform ethnic rhinoplasty, a plastic surgeon must understand the varied aesthetics of ethnic faces — the balance and proportions that make different ethnicities beautiful in different ways.
The surgeon must also understand differences in nose structure. Noses of different ethnicities not only have different external appearances, but they also have different cartilage formations. Skin type can also be a factor. Thicker or darker skin may scar more easily and more visibly than thinner or lighter skin, for example.
