Acne

As the most common skin condition in the US, acne affects nearly 85% of people at some point in their lives, to some degree, but it takes many forms. Acne can be mild with only blackheads and whiteheads (comedones) or severe with large, painful, scarring cysts. Acne can start in adolescence and improve with age or develop among adult women on the lower face fluctuating with hormones. Regardless of severity or age group, studies show that breakouts can have substantial emotional effects, leading to poor self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Luckily, there are now many effective therapies to help control and even potentially cure acne.  Dr. Hausauer brings years of rigorous training in the management and prevention of breakouts to each case.  She thoughtfully customizes a treatment plan for you and your skin, using a combination of over-the-counter and/or prescription topical products, oral medications, chemical peels, lasers/light treatments, and other devices.  While prevention is the best tact against scarring, sometimes indentations and uneven tone are unavoidable. Peels, lasers such as the HALO® or Profractional®, microneedling, and platelet rich plasma (PRP, plasmaX) are all techniques to resurface the skin.  They work to stimulate the production of normal collagen and smooth a scarred or dimpled canvas. Dermal fillers can be injected to restore deeper divets. As our director of Dermatology, Dr. Hausauer is acclaimed for her work in the field of the microneedling and PRP (plasmaX), taking particular interest in its benefits on depressed scars.

Rosacea

An under-diagnosed condition, rosacea causes redness (erythema) and inflammation on the central face.  Flushing with wine or temperature changes, fine blood vessels on the cheeks, a red bulbous nose, or pimples in adults may all be signs of rosacea and warrant dermatologic evaluation to discuss management options.  Dr. Hausauer and her team prefer to combine topical prescriptions, oral medications, and laser treatments such as the V-beam Perfecta® to calm irritated, sensitive, and erythematous skin.

Hyperpigmentation and Melasma

A flawless complexion with even coloring is the foundation of that radiant, youthful glow.  Hyperpigmentation (brown spots) contributes to looking and feeling dull or aged. Sun spots, called lentigines, are discrete tan to brown patches typically on the face, neck, chest, and hands from cumulative ultraviolet exposure.   Melasma, by contrast, is a condition involving the development of irregular, net-like patches on the face in response to sun, hormones, and other environmental exposures.  Traditionally called the “mask of pregnancy” because of its link to estrogen and progesterone, mounting evidence suggests that even visible light and heat (yes, saunas and hot yoga) may flare this exquisitely sensitive pigmentary condition. A combination of at home care and office-based procedures is typically the most effective at fading and controlling pigmentation.  And while lasers work from some conditions, they may flare others, so seeking expert care is critical.  Dr. Hausauer addresses uneven tone from all angles: lifestyle, skin products, lasers such as BBL, and peels such as Cosmelan®.  Over time and with diligence, we work together for…

You, only brighter.

Hair Loss

Affecting 50 million men and up to 30 million women in the US alone, hair loss is a common concern.  We spend nearly $3.5 billion dollars per year on therapies to combat hair loss, according to Th Washington Post, but many marketed products have little scientific evidence to support their claims and varying degrees of success.  Seeking expert consultation is a must to understand your best options.  While at New York University (NYU), Dr. Hausauer trained with one of the most influential and prolific hair physicians in the world, and based on these encounters, she gained a particular interest in developing minimally invasive techniques to combat hair loss.  She served as the lead researcher on a recent clinical trial investigating platelet rich plasma (PRP, plasmaX) for male and female pattern hair loss; travels nationally teaching other providers these techniques; and is the chief editor of a textbook on this subject.  Her knowledge allows for the seamless integration of this therapy with existing medical and surgical options to create a comprehensive hair loss plan.
